Laura Fey, Principal,

Laura utilizes her deep expertise and experience in data privacy & cybersecurity, eDiscovery & legal holds, regulatory compliance, and litigation to help U.S. and multinational organizations develop and implement practical, legally-compliant solutions to their unique privacy, AI, and information governance challenges.  Laura is one of 27 U.S. lawyers selected into the inaugural class of Privacy Law Specialists (IAPP).  She also is a member of the inaugural class of IAPP Fellows of Information Privacy (FIP).  Laura is a certified AI Governance Professional (AIGP), Certified Information Privacy Professional for the U.S. and Europe (CIPP/US; CIPP/E) and a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) (IAPP).  In 2024, the U.S. Department of Commerce and the European Commission selected Laura as part of the first class of 20 EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework Arbitrators.  Laura had previously been selected by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the European Commission as part of the first class of EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Arbitrators.

Laura has taught Global Data Protection and Privacy/Global Protection in the Age of AI at the University of Kansas Law School since 2020. She also taught the global protection and privacy portion of the International Issues course at Baylor Law School for Baylor Law School’s Executive LL.M. in Litigation Management Program from 2020-2025. Laura was selected into Baylor Law School’s Brain Trust for Baylor’s Executive LL.M. in Litigation Management Program, and recognized as a data privacy thought leader to help educate and guide lawyers in that program.

In her specialized practice, Laura, who was previously an equity partner at an Am Law 100 firm, draws upon over twenty years of litigation and trial experience successfully defending U.S. and multinational organizations in a variety of complex matters—including attorney general actions, multi-district litigation, and class actions—as well as her experiences as a former Honor’s Program attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, where she was selected as an Outstanding Performance Award recipient.  Along with her consulting practice, Laura has served as a data protection and privacy expert witness.

Laura, who is a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation and a direct descendant of the first governor of the Chickasaw Nation, also is a passionate advocate for diversity.  She is a founding member of the University of Kansas Law School Diversity Advisory Council.  Fey LLC is a certified Women’s Business Enterprise (Kansas Department of Commerce); a certified Minority Business Enterprise (Kansas Department of Commerce); and a Chickasaw Nation Preferred Vendor (Chickasaw Nation Division of Commerce).  Laura also has been a member of the Women’s Business Development Center’s Regional Ambassador and Advisory Committee.

Laura is a frequent speaker on data protection & privacy, AI, eDiscovery & legal holds, regulatory compliance, and information governance compliance issues.  She also has provided legal analysis on a number of national television and radio news broadcasts covering high-profile legal issues and cases.
