David Westerhaus

David Westerhaus brings a background in cybersecurity engineering to his work as a law clerk at Fey LLC, pairing technical training with a growing legal foundation.

David is currently pursuing his J.D. at the University of Kansas School of Law, where he’s set to graduate in 2028. Before starting law school, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity Engineering from the University of Kansas School of Engineering, part of the program’s first graduating class, along with coursework in National Security Policy Studies. He spent several years at Burns & McDonnell, working his way from intern to co-op to full-time software developer, where he built databases and workflow automations using Python and JavaScript. David joined Fey LLC as a Law Clerk in May 2026, where he works at the intersection of his two areas of training, helping the firm’s attorneys understand the technical side of the cases they handle while building his own legal skill set. Outside of work, David spends his free time home-labbing and tinkering with computer parts and local networks. He also makes a point of touching grass occasionally, and enjoys fishing, camping, hiking or running.
