Sarah draws on her background as a former HIPAA privacy officer, assistant general counsel and litigation attorney, along with her detail-oriented nature, to craft innovative and practical solutions to privacy and information governance challenges faced by Fey LLC’s corporate clients. Sarah has considerable experience in creating and implementing effective regulatory compliance training; drafting and reviewing Business Associate Agreements and privacy provisions in contracts; developing privacy policies, notices of privacy practices and release authorizations; conducting compliance risk assessments; and providing legal advice on a wide range of regulatory matters.
In Sarah’s prior experience as an assistant general counsel and HIPAA privacy officer for a large state health agency, she was in charge of all facets of HIPAA compliance. She developed online and in-person compliance training and provided guidance to agency leadership on specific compliance issues and HIPAA best practices. Sarah handled breach investigations and federal reporting, as well as responses to complaints filed with the HHS Office for Civil Rights. In her assistant general counsel role, Sarah also developed regulatory expertise in drafting and revising state regulations and internal agency rules and procedures.
Sarah’s broad litigation experience representing corporations in highly regulated industries in high stakes litigation and regulatory matters when she was an associate at an AmLaw 100 firm is also an asset to Fey LLC’s clients. In addition to being skilled in all phases of litigation, she is adept at advising clients on defensible regulatory compliance practices as a means of limiting exposure in litigation and compliance investigations. Earlier in her career, Sarah also served as a long-term federal judicial law clerk, gaining exposure to an incredible range of civil cases while acquiring critical insights into the judicial decision-making process.
